Why You Need to Exfoliate During Pregnancy

Why You Need to Exfoliate During Pregnancy

Exfoliation is crucial to overall skin health and appearance, and becomes even more important during pregnancy. Let's explain why.

For many women, the fluctuating hormones we experience during pregnancy cause changes in our skin. Some of these changes are positive, while others aren't. Oilier skin, dryness, breakouts and hyperpigmentation are some of these not-so-pleasant changes that can occur. So how do we prevent these from happening? Exfoliate!

How does exfoliating help? Regularly removing dead skin prevents the buildup that can result in breakouts/hyperpigmentation/texture changes, while also allowing for your other products to penetrate more deeply and work effectively.

However, during pregnancy it is important to use exfoliating products that are safe for yourself and baby. Many chemical exfoliants have ingredients that aren't pregnancy safe (e.g. salicylic, benzoyl peroxide, retinol, certain essential oils, etc.). Even chemicals like glycolic and lactic acid, which are technically considered safe, should be used with a doctor's guidance first. Physical exfoliants, like scrubs and dry cleansers, might provide a better exfoliation than chemical during pregnancy. A highly effective product to consider is the SISH Beauty In-Shower Facial Treatment. SISH Treatments give immediate results and were formulated under dermatologists' guidance to be 100% pregnancy safe using ingredients meant to address and prevent all of the skin issues that can come along with pregnancy.

So take a little time each week for your skin self care and enjoy the beautiful pregnancy glow that exfoliation will reveal.
