Between summer and the upcoming holidays, it’s likely we all have trips to look forward to. As fun as traveling is, we often find ourselves taking “breaks” from things like the gym, diets and maintaining a good skin care routine. While working for a hotel spa, many of my clients were out of town visitors. One of the biggest concerns I would hear from these clients was how traveling and/or being in a new environment seemed to have a negative impact on their skin (i.e. breakout, puffiness, dryness/oiliness, etc). Chances are when we’re traveling, whether for work or leisure, we have places to be and events to attend, which makes these skin care issues all the more inconvenient and annoying to deal with. Here are some useful tips to preparing a skin care routine based on your travel plans and how to maintain it.
- Bring Products and Have a Plan--Whether you’re flying, driving or taking a train, think about how you’ll be traveling and how long your travel time is. Especially when flying, the elevation causes dryness and often puffiness. For shorter travel time, facial mists are perfect for refreshing the skin and adding some needed moisture. Also, pack a nice calming mask to use once you get settled in and reduce any post-flight puffiness. However, if you have a long trip ahead of you, don’t make the mistake of ignoring your skin and waiting until you arrive to do anything. Letting debris build up is an almost surefire way of causing some sort of negative skin reaction. To keep your skin clean, bring SISH Beauty cleansing tablets to use just as you would for nighttime/morning. Follow up with your normal products, or even better, bring hydrating serums/moisturizers to combat the dehydrated skin travel causes.
- Cater to the Climate--The environment plays a huge role in how our skin reacts, especially if it’s a climate we’re not accustomed to. Going to the cold? Make sure the products you pack help to hydrate and nourish. Going somewhere hot? Opt for lightweight, maybe even oil free products that are breathable and won’t feel heavy on the skin.
- Antioxidant Boost--Just like antioxidants can help boost our immune system, antioxidant-rich skin care products are a fantastic way to give skin an added layer of defense to combat the stressors of traveling and an unfamiliar environment. Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Green Tea are some popular antioxidants to look out for in a good product.
- Don’t Settle For Drug Store Travel Products--Don’t get me wrong, I love the travel section, just not for skin care. Now if these products are the same as what you usually use that’s one thing. But if your typical skin care routine includes better quality products, then don’t downgrade, even if it’s just temporary. Whether you bring SISH Beauty or another cleanser, just remember your skin will know the difference between a good quality product and a drugstore travel item.
- Be Consistent--Whatever your typical skin care routine is, do your best to adhere to it. Think about what the day looks like and bring products with you if needed. Your skin will thank you for it!
Follow these tips to keep your skin looking its best on your next trip. Safe travels!
